This hand sculpted original work by artist James Havens represents a new specie of elasmosaurus name “Nakonanectes bradti" recently discovered in Montana. The sculpture was created by blending the cutting edge of 3D scanning of the actual fossil, the digital reconstruction and repair of the fossil and 3D printing of the accurately reconstructed skull. The cutting edge 3D work was done by the world renowned 3D expert team of Jesse Pruitt and Nicholas Clement of the Idaho Virtualization Laboratory. Artist James Havens then applied a forensic hand sculpted clay sculpture, “fleshing out” the digital print.
By combining the latest science with the classic art of tradition sculpture - James Havens and this exceptional team or professionals have brought to life the most accurate Elasmosaurus facial representation ever created as stamped and approved by one of the world top ancient marine reptile experts and the artists scientific advisor, Dr. Pat Druckenmiller, UAF Museum of the North.
“Nakonanectes bradti is a new elasmosaur with a much shorter neck. Painting by James Havens.
