SoCal COASTAL CONSERVATION SERIES No.2

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The “Coastal Revival” series shines a light on the SoCal shoreline—Santa Monica to Malibu—still healing from the Palisades wildfires. Our latest painting puts the resilient brown pelican front‑and‑center, capturing its graceful flight over dunes that are being restored day by day.

RESTORATION PARTNERS

SANTA MONICA BAY RESTORATION COMMISSION  |  leads dune rebuilding and trash‑removal initiatives.

MALIBU | SAN DIEGO COAST KEEPER  | monitors water quality and coordinates native‑plant revegetation.

HEAL THE BAY | runs community clean‑ups and educates the public on fire‑impact mitigation.

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND REC  |  manages post‑fire erosion control and habitat enhancement projects.

Together, these groups are stitching the coastline back together, giving the brown pelican—and countless other species—a place to thrive again. Explore the artwork, learn more, and join the effort to keep our beaches vibrant.

FEATURED SUBJECT | BROWN PELICAN

(Content | Photo credit NOAA fisheries)

Once nearly wiped out by DDT, the California brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) has made a remarkable comeback. These iconic birds dive for fish, nest in coastal cliffs, and serve as a barometer for ocean health. By featuring them, we honor the wildlife that depends on clean beaches and highlight the urgent need for habitat protection.
